With Mental Health Awareness Week taking place across the country from May 14-20, two upcoming shows at The Lemon Tree are tackling the issue head-on, raising awareness with humour and ingenuity.

Amy Conway’s Super Awesome World is on at the Aberdeen venue next Wednesday May 9, at 7pm.

Super Awesome World, which is written and performed by Amy Conway, is a brand new autobiographical show about video games that invites the audience to join Amy Conway as allies in her fight against depression. A performance that explores, through the prism of gaming, what depression is like and what it is like to fight it. The show will ask the audience to become Amy's fellow adventurers in an interactive experience that asks difficult questions and quests for elusive sparks of joy in the deep dark multi-user dungeons of the soul.

The performance is billed as “a show for adults, teenagers and anyone that has ever battled the darkness inside.” It is recommended for ages 12 and over.

On Saturday May 19, is Don’t Panic! It’s Challenge Anneka. Inspired by real life stories, Don't Panic... presents a frank, funny and open exploration of a topic that too often remains taboo: the challenge of overcoming anxiety.

Join the award-winning company on the button in this roller-coaster of a one-woman show, which channels the spirit of someone for whom no challenge is too big: Don’t Panic! It’s Challenge Anneka.

Aberdeen Performing Arts director of programming and creative projects, Ben Torrie, said: “Mental Health is an important issue, and it is important to break down barriers and make it easier to talk about.

“We are fully supportive of that and what better way to start a conversation than with Amy Conway’s Super Awesome World and Don’t Panic! It’s Challenge Anneka.”

Tickets for these shows are available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or phone the box office on 01224 641122.
