Newburgh’s Udny Arms and Trellis to hit the market for offers over £1.6m 

Newburgh’s Udny Arms Hotel and Trellis cafe will soon hit the market for offers in excess of £1.6million following administrators swooping in to try and save the business.

The beloved institute went into administration in December, with insolvency firm Begbies Traynor taking over in an effort to keep up to 40 full and part-time employees in work.

Previous owners the Younge family ran the hotel and cafe, with the family investing significant sums into reviving the once-derelict hotel just a few years ago.

New exams body plans to shake-up qualifications system

A shake-up of the exams system could be in the pipeline after Scotland's new exams body gave more details of plans for a major review.

Qualifications Scotland, which has taken over from the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority), wants to ensure exams are "absolutely fit for purpose".

Chief examiner Donna Stewart said it was looking at both the length of the exams and whether qualifications would continue to be offered in some "low uptake" subjects, although she said Gaelic would not be affected.

Rape Crisis Scotland chief to step down after 24 years

The chief executive of one of Scotland’s most high-profile campaigning charities is to step down after 24 years.

Sandy Brindley set up Rape Crisis Scotland in 2002 and since then has been a leading figure in awareness-raising and legal campaigning on sexual violence.

Brindley’s decision to step down follows controversies surrounding the organisation and rows over gender.

Seven UK Labubu shops to open, after PM's China visit

Seven new shops for Labubu dolls are to open in the UK this year, following the prime minister's trip to China.

Chinese toy maker Pop Mart has confirmed it will open a flagship shop on Oxford Street in London's West End, as well as shops in Cardiff and Birmingham, before opening 20 more shops in Europe in 2026.

The announcement is part of a package of deals announced by the UK government, including on whisky and cars, which officials claim is worth £2.2billion in export deals.
