Amber warning in force as north and North-east schools set to remain closed

Heavy snow across the north and North-east continues to cause significant disruption, with schools set to remain shut for the first day back of the new year.

Over the past few days, trains, buses and flights have all faced cancellation or delay with more expected to come over the next few days.

Shops closed early preparing for a Met Office amber weather warning for snow, which is now in effect until 10am on Monday. A yellow snow and ice warning is also in place until 11.59pm on Monday.

Oil firm reveals £100,000 plans for Union Street offices in Aberdeen

A Dutch oil and gas firm is planning to spend a six-figure sum on kitting out the Diligent House offices in Aberdeen city centre.

Rotterdam-based NMC Energy have put in plans to do up space inside Diligent House on 475-485 Union Street.

The firm currently has offices on Bon Accord Crescent, but have submitted plans to splurge £110,000 to do up the inside of the office block.

Junk food advert ban comes into force

Junk food adverts are banned on television and online starting today as part of a drive to tackle childhood obesity.

The UK-wide ban stops food and drinks high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS) being advertised on TV before 21:00 and at any time online.

It applies to products considered to be the biggest drivers of childhood obesity, including soft drinks, chocolates and sweets, pizzas and ice creams.
