Aberdeen eBike hire scheme poised for comeback after council finds new operator
Aberdeen’s eBike hire scheme is poised to return after council chiefs found a new operator 18 months after the previous venture collapsed.
It can now be revealed that the local authority has struck a deal to bring rental bikes back to the city – some time after the previous partner pulled out of the contract.
Papers going before an upcoming meeting reveal that the new scheme will cost the council £200,000 over three years. If voted through, 200 eBikes will be back on the street as soon as spring next year.
Military homes to be renovated in £9bn government plan
Thousands of military homes across the UK will be modernised, refurbished or rebuilt over the next decade under a £9billion government plan to improve defence housing.
The Ministry of Defence's new housing strategy will see improvements made to almost all of its 47,700 homes for military families in what Defence Secretary John Healey said will be the "biggest renewal of Armed Forces housing in more than 50 years".
The plan is in response to consistent complaints from serving personnel about the state of their accommodation.

Vue cinema boss: I don't see streaming as the competition
The boss of one of the UK's biggest cinema chains says he does not see streaming services and home entertainment as competition.
Tim Richards, the founder and chief executive of Vue International, says film studios tried to "circumvent" cinemas during the pandemic but lost "hundreds of millions of dollars" as a result.
"I think the studios certainly learned that we are in one small ecosystem, we all need each other," he told the BBC's Big Boss Interview podcast.
BBC’s Andrew Black off-air after ‘pinning cheeky sign’ to studio
A second BBC presenter has been taken off air for misconduct only days after Kaye Adams stepped back from her radio show amid bullying allegations.
Andrew Black, the Reporting Scotland anchor, is said to have been removed by the broadcaster after allegedly leaving a “cheeky” message in the BBC’s studio in Glasgow, which stayed on display as the programme went out live.
It is claimed that Black was unhappy when the news bulletin was pushed back by 30 minutes on October 12 because of coverage of Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Belarus.
