NEREC has completed the first phase of a major town centre deep cleaning programme in Peterhead, supporting We Are Peterhead's efforts to revitalise the town ahead of this year's Peterhead Scottish Week.
Appointed as the specialist contractor for the project, NEREC was tasked with delivering a tailored cleaning programme across key public spaces, removing years of built-up grime, gull fouling, weeds and organic growth from pavements and common walking areas. The objective was to create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and local businesses while demonstrating the impact that targeted public realm maintenance can have.
Working to a tight programme, the project was completed over five consecutive nights between 13 and 17 July. By carrying out the works overnight, NEREC was able to minimise disruption to businesses, pedestrians and traffic while ensuring the town centre was ready each morning.
The scope of works included pressure washing the town square, bandstand, footpaths and other public areas, removing weeds throughout the town centre, and soft washing street furniture including bins, benches, planters and lighting columns. A combination of flat surface cleaners, turbo nozzles and hot water pressure washing was used to deliver an efficient clean while tackling heavily soiled areas and achieving a consistent finish across the project.
The work showcased NEREC's ability to plan and deliver large-scale exterior cleaning projects within demanding timescales. Careful phasing of the programme, combined with specialist equipment and experienced operators, enabled the team to complete the project safely and efficiently without affecting the town's daytime activity.
The project has already received a positive response from the local community. Feedback shared by We Are Peterhead highlighted widespread appreciation for the visible improvements, with residents commenting on how much cleaner and more welcoming the town centre looked. Many described the project as "a great start", noted the significant difference it had made, and thanked everyone involved in delivering the work.
Ross Skene, Business Development & Marketing Manager at NEREC, said: "Projects like this show how specialist cleaning can make a real difference to a community. It's about far more than improving appearance. A clean, well-maintained town centre creates pride, provides a better experience for residents and visitors, and supports the businesses that operate there. We're proud to have worked with We Are Peterhead on this first phase and look forward to supporting future improvements."
The project represents another example of NEREC's growing capability in delivering large-scale commercial and public realm cleaning programmes. Alongside specialist cleaning for commercial, industrial and construction clients, the company continues to invest in equipment, training and processes that allow it to mobilise quickly and complete projects across Scotland and further afield with minimal disruption.
