North East Scotland College (NESCol) has announced new funding to support construction students at its Aberdeen Altens Campus.

Using a donation of £500, NESCol will be able to help 32 students enhance their knowledge by accessing the online ‘Sustainability in the Construction Sector’ course completely free of charge.

The course is aimed at anyone seeking to improve their understanding and awareness of environmental sustainability in the construction sector.

The fund has been donated by Sureserve Energy Services as they aim to develop and deliver community benefits and social value activities.

Sureserve is currently delivering a domestic renewables project in Aberdeen, installing solar panels at properties in the Cove area of the city.

Liam Wright, Curriculum Manager at NESCol, said: “Sustainable construction is about challenging how we build and how we retrofit existing infrastructure. It requires us to consider the environmental impact of materials, methods and decisions throughout the construction process. Through this generous donation, we will be able to enhance our teaching in this critical subject area and give two classes at our Altens Campus access to valuable learning opportunities. This will help students develop the knowledge and awareness needed to support a more sustainable future for the construction industry.”

Scott Paton, Operations Director at Sureserve, added: “We’re pleased to support 32 students at North East College with their Sustainability in Construction training as part of the community benefits from our Cove Bay project. At Sureserve Energy Services, sustainability is at the heart of what we do, and supporting the next generation with the knowledge and skills to build a more sustainable construction sector is an important part of that. It’s great to see the wider impact our projects can have in the communities where we work.”

Sustainability in the Construction Sector is one of 18 diverse, practical construction courses delivered by NESCol online or at its campuses in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh.
