New Aberdeenshire website puts services in the palm of your hand

A new-look Aberdeenshire Council website that will be more responsive and easier to view on smartphones and tablets is to go live next week.

From Monday, September 21, visitors to www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk will immediately notice a clearer, slimmed-down site that aims to make it easier for visitors to find the services that matter to them most.

Whether that’s paying a bill, finding out term dates for a local school, or simply finding out what events are happening locally, visitors will be able to access the information in a matter of clicks.

Co-Leader of Aberdeenshire Council Cllr Martin Kitts-Hayes: “This is the most significant change to our website to date, both in terms of the site’s appearance and functionality, and is based on best practice in the industry.

“Internet habits are changing, and we needed to change too to make sure our website is accessible and responsive to user needs.

“We knew we needed to slim down the vast amounts of information held on the existing website so that people can easily and quickly find the services they need and in a way that suits them.”

Co-Leader Cllr Richard Thomson said: “This is about much more than simply the look of the site. The mechanics behind it mean that the services people search for the most will always feature on the homepage, and will change as the needs of users change.

“We want the council website to be something that people can fit into their everyday lives rather than expecting customers to work within the existing limitations of the site.”

Key services will be available in the new format from Monday, September 21, while others will be moved to the new format over the course of the coming weeks.
