Aberdeen family support charity Home-Start Aberdeen is preparing to open the doors of its brand new charity shop at 100 George Street on Monday 17 November, following the successful refurbishment of the former Santander premises on the corner of the street.
The new shop offers a larger, brighter space than its previous location just a few doors down and marks a significant step forward for the charity - both in terms of visibility and long-term sustainability.
The George Street shop will stock a wide range of quality pre-loved clothing, toys, homeware, books, and gift items, with all proceeds directly supporting Home-Start Aberdeen’s work with local families. The charity has been active in Aberdeen for over 30 years and provides practical and emotional support to families with young children, helping parents build confidence, navigate challenges, and create nurturing home environments.
Cameron McCready, chief executive of Home-Start Aberdeen, said: “This new space gives us room to grow - not just in terms of retail, but in our ability to reach more people and generate more support for the work we do across Aberdeen. The local community has been incredibly supportive throughout this move, and we’re really excited to open our doors.”
Home-Start Aberdeen also extended its thanks to the many local businesses, tradespeople, community groups, and supporters who contributed time, resources, and expertise to help bring the new shop to life.
“This has been a real community effort,” Cameron added. “From painting walls to lifting furniture, from donating shop fittings to offering kind words of encouragement - we’re so grateful to everyone who played a part in getting us here.”
The shop plays an increasingly important role in supporting families facing cost-of-living pressures while also championing sustainability through the reuse and repurposing of donated items - a win-win for the community and the environment.
“It’s more than just a shop,” adds Cameron. “It’s a space that reflects our values - welcoming, practical, and rooted in community. Every donation, every purchase, every volunteer hour helps us give local children the best possible start in life.”
The new shop at 100 George Street officially opens for trading from Monday 17th November, with an official opening celebration and ribbon-cutting planned for later in the month.
Donations and volunteers welcome
Home-Start Aberdeen continues to welcome donations of good-quality items and is also seeking new volunteers to support the shop’s day-to-day running. For more information visit: www.homestartaberdeen.org.uk
