A new North Sea boss will be taking up the reins on an interim basis at UK oil and gas giant BP from next month.

The supermajor has confirmed that Emeka Emembolu will be leaving the Aberdeen-based role to become chief of staff to company chief executive Bernard Looney.

Mr Emembolu will take up the new role on March 1, according to Energy Voice.

He will be replaced as senior vice president North Sea on an interim basis by Doris Reiter, BP's current vice president subsurface North Sea and Angola.

Mr Emembolu, who was born in Glasgow but left at a young age, has been at BP for 23 years, joining the company after graduating from Sheffield University with a degree in biochemical engineering.

He took up the position as BP's boss for the North Sea on July 1, 2020, moving to Aberdeen from Houston - where he was vice-president of reservoir development, Gulf of Mexico and Canada - to replace Ariel Flores.

Like Mr Emembolu, Ms Reiter has also spent 23 years at BP, beginning her career with Arco in Dallas, US.
