New luxury Aberdeen hotel revealed

Images of Aberdeen’s newest luxury hotel have been revealed, providing a first look at the stylish city centre venue.

Sandman Signature Aberdeen Hotel is due to officially launch on Friday, August 17, in the former Robert Gordon University building on St Andrew Street offering a new place to overnight or relax in what’s set to be one of the city’s new hotspots.

Upon entering the historic building, guests will be struck by the expansive view of the hotel’s impressive lobby which spans two floors. A memorable first impression of the venue, the room is filled with a diverse range of textures and colours, all inspired by Scottish wildlife, including wood wall paneling, original granite stone, treated bark and calming moss walls, which bring a new natural element alongside a brightly-coloured hanging glass umbrella and central raindrop chandelier. Umbrellas, raindrops and seagulls will ensure Scottish guests feel at home straight away.

A mix of modern soft furnishings, including long gorse yellow sofas, where an evening cocktail can be sipped, retro cowhide-covered brass armchairs and small seats set in stone alcoves offer plenty of space for guests of the hotel to unwind with friends or read a book.

Upstairs 218 bedrooms can be found, with guests having the option to choose from:

  • Signature Twin Double Room
  • Signature King Room
  • Signature Corporate King Room with Sofa Bed
  • Signature Corporate King Suite with Sofa Bed

Each room type has been carefully designed to have its own unique character which brings a new modern, comfortable and luxury accommodation option to the city, yet is in keeping with the building’s Scottish heritage.

All bedrooms and suites feature a bespoke bed and mattress created by local social enterprise Glencraft, uniquely designed to offer the very best night’s sleep. Aptly named ‘The Sandman’ after the mythical folklore character who is said to aid sleep and bring good dreams, the luxury mattresses have been produced with natural materials and hand-finished – a process which has earned Glencraft a Royal Warrant.

Traditional Scottish interiors including large leather headboards, 100% wool bed throws and antler-decorated scatter cushions complement more modern additions including hanging globe-shaped glass lamps, large flat screen TVs and copper accessories.

En-suite bathrooms boast original brick walls alongside freestanding baths and separate showers, finished with guest toiletries from Gilchrist & Soames.

Lorna Gillespie who designed the interiors of Sandman Signature Aberdeen Hotel, commented: “We really wanted the hotel to be different and to stand out from other venues in the city. With a fantastic mix of fabrics, accessories and pieces from a range of great suppliers we’ve been able to create a new luxury and extremely stylish place for guests to enjoy in the heart of Aberdeen.

“After a long time working on the design and delivery of the hotel it’s really exciting to reveal a glimpse of what the place offers and we can’t wait for our first guests to see it when the hotel officially opens on Friday.”
