The Principal and Vice Chancellor of Abertay University, who will step down from this role at the end of April, has been appointed onto the Board of Governors at Robert Gordon University (RGU).
Professor Nigel Seaton has been with Abertay since 2012, making him one of Scotland’s longest-serving Principals, with a decade of experience at the helm of a university.
On accepting the appointment to RGU’s Board, Nigel says: “I’m very pleased indeed to be joining the Board of Robert Gordon University. I look forward to contributing to the great work that the University does with its students, with industry and commerce, and for society more generally, in Aberdeen and beyond.”
The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall strategic direction and governance of the University.
Colin Hunter, RGU’s Chair of the Board, welcomed its new member.
He said: “We welcome the depth of experience that Nigel has as a leader in his profession. His expertise and guidance will be of great value to the Board and the strategic direction of the University.”
Professor Seaton began his academic career as a lecturer in chemical engineering at the University of Cambridge. He has held roles at several UK institutions in teaching, research and leadership, and has also worked in higher education in the US. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and last year he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in recognition of his work in the higher education sector.
