Members of the newly established Torry Men’s Shed have completed Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training delivered by Go To First Aid Training - marking an important first step in strengthening first aid awareness and safety within the group.

Men’s Shed is a charity that supports the development of local community groups for men aged 18 and over. Its aim is to reduce loneliness, boredom, and social isolation by bringing together retired and unemployed men, while promoting improved mental health and wellbeing.

Torry Men’s Shed is a newly formed and growing group based in Aberdeen. As part of its development, members recently took part in a hands-on first aid training session delivered during one of their regular meetings.

The session gave participants the opportunity to develop and refresh key life-saving skills, including Basic Life Support, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator, managing choking incidents, and placing a casualty in the recovery position.

Feedback from participants was highly positive. Members commented that the training removed the fear of “doing something wrong” and exceeded expectations. One participant noted, “You were able to deliver exactly what we needed with older members and managed to get it across in a way that we fully understood.”

Go To First Aid Training praised the group’s engagement and welcomed the opportunity to support a valuable community initiative.

The course ensures that Men’s Shed members meet recognised BLS and AED requirements, helping to create a safer environment for volunteers while strengthening resilience across the wider community.
