After the summer break, Lively Minds talks are back to Fountainhall at the Cross (formerly Queen’s Cross in Albyn Place). The new season's programme contains a wide and interesting range of subjects, from medicine to history, from social subjects to current economic or political matters.

On Tuesday 5 September, the first talk of the new season took place, led by Neil Curtis, Head of Museums and Special Collections at the University of Aberdeen, who guided us on the complex subject of the return of colonial artefacts to their countries of origin. For their next event on Tuesday 19 September, Lively Minds will invite Dr Ken McHardy who will enlighten the audience on Aberdeen’s major contributions in bringing insulin to the world.

Lively Minds meets every first and third Tuesday of the month in the main hall at Fountainhall at the Cross (formerly Queen’s Cross) in Albyn Place, at the heart of Aberdeen’s West End. With the option of a sandwich lunch provided in the hall from noon, the talks start at 12.30 pm, followed by Q&A.

Lively Minds is the initiative of a group of members of the former Queen’s Cross Church who got together five years ago willing to learn new things and keep up with the constantly evolving world. They started inviting guests who could enlighten them on diverse matters, opening the meetings to the benefit of the wide public. Writers, scientists, doctors, adventurers, project leaders are some of the profiles of the speakers who were invited to give a talk last year.

The next meetings will see John Corall deepening on the subject of the family history (Researching your Family History - 3 October), Dr Fiona McIntyre explaining the future projects of Greyhope Bay (17 October), Ken Howie enlightening the audience about The Story of Aberdeen Angus Cattle (7 November), Rosie Campbell presenting her talk Home for Good – Finding Homes Together (21 November) and Lorna McIntosh presenting Living Through History with the Melting Pot Music Group as special guests (5 December).

Lively Minds’ talks take place at Fountainhall at the Cross (formerly Queen's Cross in Albyn Place), an exceptional venue offering flexible space to hire for formal and informal gatherings, from concert and theatre events to conferences, training days and workshops. Being able to accommodate groups from 4 people up to 350 people, most of the rooms at Fountainhall at the Cross are equipped with the latest AV technology and can benefit from the hospitality services of Cognito at the Cross, the onsite café.
