One of the new businesses supported on to Union Street is celebrating £1million of takings on its first year.

Thistle Tavern started out as just a website in 2022, before owners Stuart Robb and Andrew Rayner took the board game and trading card store into the Granite Mile.

Twelve months on, the duo are toasting a £1million milestone, with around 60% of turnover coming from in-store sales.

“It is possible to succeed on Union Street. We’ve been doing it for a year with phenomenal success," Stuart told the Press & Journal.

David White, a volunteer at Our Union Street dedicated to linking new businesses with available spaces, said: “Thistle Taverns is a fantastic example of what is possible when you back passionate, local entrepreneurs who believe in Aberdeen’s future.

“Hitting £1million turnover in their first year is a phenomenal achievement and shows just how much appetite there is for quality, independent retail on Union Street.

“This is exactly the kind of business Our Union Street was set up to support - and it proves that with the right people, the right support, and a bit of collective belief, we can breathe new life into our city centre.

“Every thriving new business is a step towards a busier, bolder, more vibrant Union Street – a cause the whole city and region can unite behind”
