Kayleigh's Wee Stars won the Making the Difference award - sponsored by Balmoral - at the 2025 Northern Star Business Awards.

Kayleigh’s Wee Stars (KWS) has been recognised for its profound impact on the lives of families caring for terminally ill children across the region. Founded in memory of their daughter Kayleigh, Jonathan and Anna Cordiner launched the charity in 2012 with one key objective in mind: that no family should have to worry about money when spending precious time with their terminally ill child.

Through tailored financial grants, KWS helps families cover travel, household costs, childcare and even specialist equipment, ensuring they can focus on making precious memories without the burden of financial strain. Over the past year, KWS has supported 71 families, distributing £72,000 in grants.

The charity’s growth and success are made possible by a committed network of volunteers, donors, and partners, including its collaboration with Young Lives vs Cancer. This partnership allows KWS to extend its reach, ensuring families receive the support they need in critical times.

Through its work, KWS not only provides financial relief to those facing terminal illness but also strengthens the local community by bringing people together for fundraising events and initiatives. Local businesses, schools, and community groups actively participate in events like the Barra 10K and Autumn Cycle Sportive, ensuring that the spirit of giving thrives.

The recognition shines a well-deserved spotlight on the dedicated founders, volunteers, and supporters of Kayleigh’s Wee Stars, whose unwavering commitment has made a lasting impact on families in the North-east and beyond.

With each grant, fundraising event and act of kindness, Kayleigh’s Wee Stars continues to create lasting memories for families, helping them navigate one of the most difficult times in their lives with dignity and love. Their work ensures that Kayleigh’s legacy lives on, and their impact continues to grow.
