Serco NorthLink Ferries is celebrating the extraordinary fundraising efforts of crew member Kathryn Fullerton, who has now officially surpassed the £100,000 mark for charitable causes.

This phenomenal achievement will be celebrated at her upcoming bingo event on Halloween, 31st October.

Kathryn, who works on board the company's ferries, has been running fundraising events for the past 14 years, with this year’s bingo event marking her 15th activity. What started as a simple raffle onboard in Christmas 2012 to support the Gilbert Bain Hospital Renal Unit – where her mother underwent kidney dialysis – has blossomed into a remarkable personal mission that has now raised over £100,000.

This year, Kathryn has chosen to support Muscular Dystrophy UK after learning that a young girl from her village had been diagnosed with the condition.

Kathryn said: "Reaching £100,000 has crept up on me and I'm just over the moon. It's a lot of money and I hope I've helped a few people over the years. I'm not finished yet!"

Over the years, Kathryn's creativity and determination have seen her organise an impressive array of fundraising activities, from sponsored head shaves and abseiling down Aberdeen Royal Children’s Hospital to pop-up charity shops, knitathons, bingo and horse race nights both onboard NorthLink's ferries and ashore. She has even sold knitted hats and branded boat merchandise and started up Scalloway Carnival – all in aid of various charities.

Stuart Garrett, Managing Director of Serco NorthLink Ferries, said: "Kathryn's commitment to fundraising is truly remarkable and an inspiration to everyone at NorthLink Ferries. Over more than a decade, she has shown incredible dedication and creativity in raising awareness and funds for worthy causes. We are proud to support her and to celebrate this impressive milestone."

Kathryn, added: "I want to say a huge thank you to Stuart Garrett and all the crew of the Hjaltland, Hrossey and Hamnavoe – past and present – for their incredible support. I'm also grateful to my family, friends and the Trondra Women's Squad, my Cornerstone family, and everyone who has bought, sponsored or donated over the years. This wouldn't have been possible without them."

Kathryn’s upcoming bingo event on 31st October is already a sell-out, with great prizes generously donated by local businesses and the local fishing fleet, as supporters come together to celebrate Kathryn's latest fundraising milestone.
