It’s ‘Mission Christmas’ for Northsound as host Jeff appeals to listeners and locals to buy one extra gift to help thousands of disadvantaged children in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
The largest Christmas toy appeal in the UK, Mission Christmas is an annual campaign run by charity Cash for Kids and supported by Northsound Radio. In 2022 Mission Christmas supported 5,596 local children so that they were able to open a gift on the big day.
Due to the cost-of-living crisis, the charity is anticipating their highest level of demand for support ever. This year across North East Scotland we have already received applications on behalf of 3,347 children.

said: ‘Our community have always been so amazingly generous when it comes to Mission Christmas, and so if you can, please just buy one extra gift this year and we’ll make sure that it goes to a child who truly deserves it.
Every child should feel the excitement of waking up to presents on Christmas morning and that’s why we want to help out Santa by making sure that even more young people in our area can be given some Christmas cheer this year.’
Jamie Smith, Charity Manager added: ‘This year we have seen a surge in applications across all of our granting and appeals. This campaign is no different, as we launch the campaign we have over 3,000 applications. This is unheard of in previous years and sets the tone for the next few weeks. More and more families need our help this year and so far our supporters have been amazing, making it possible to support those in need and once again we know that all of our supporters will pull through to support Mission Christmas. We truly are on a Mission this Christmas!’

Cash for Kids works with thousands of organisations across the UK who support disadvantaged children (0 – 18 years). Throughout the Mission Christmas campaign, these organisations along with social workers, head teachers and the emergency services nominate families in crisis to be supported by the appeal.
