Norwell EDGE, the global online oil and gas technical training provider, is to partner with the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in Tanzania, to explore joint working opportunities in both education and the wider oil and gas industry.
The agreement between Norwell EDGE, headquartered in Aberdeen, UK, and UDSM will explore opportunities to work together on joint educational projects, outreach initiatives and to collaborate on oil and gas industry projects.
The UDSM’s petroleum engineering students will also be given full access to Norwell EDGE’s in-depth technical oil and gas awareness course which features 50 modules and certified assessments.
Mike Adams, co-founder of Norwell EDGE, said: “It is fantastic to formalise our relationship with this respected university. The undergraduate students here have been part of our story for the last two years and were among the first in the world to test our new platform. As such, I’m pleased to be able to continue that working partnership and I’m confident this collaboration will open up new opportunities for both EDGE and the university.”
The partnership is part of a long-standing commitment to the region which has seen Norwell EDGE’s partner company Norwell Engineering, an international drilling management firm, active onshore in Tanzania for several years, including most recently on the NT-2 well for Aminex PLC.
Professor Rutinwa, USDM’s acting vice chancellor, said: “We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Norwell EDGE and work together with them to further enhance learning opportunities for our students while also identifying projects on which we can collaborate.”
Since its launch in March 2018, Norwell EDGE has attracted users from more than 40 countries around the globe and counts international oil and gas operators in both the UK and Nigeria in addition to oil and gas service companies among its clients.
H.E. Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Tanzania added: “I’m delighted that Norwell EDGE has partnered with the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The UK is a global leader in oil & gas training and this partnership will enable Tanzania’s students and engineers to access world-class training online. The oil & gas sector has the power to transform Tanzania’s economy and expertise from Aberdeen can play an invaluable role. I hope that other companies will be able to follow Norwell EDGE’s lead and secure new business opportunities in the country.”
