Dates have been set for the courtroom showdown between Aberdeen City Council and city centre retailers over the local authority's bus gates.

A preliminary hearing at the Court of Session in Edinburgh fixed dates for the substantive hearing on November 11 and 12 - set to be livestreamed on the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service website.

During yesterday's hearing, the court also granted permission for Aberdeen City Council to lodge an affidavit, a written statement, from its chief planning officer David Dunne to provide context to emails he had sent.

In December, The Press and Journal uncovered a series of emails in which Mr Dunne repeatedly asked bosses from First and Stagecoach to provide favourable statistics demonstrating the positive impact of the much-maligned bus gates.

Veteran retailer Norman Esslemont is spearheading the legal challenge against the council's bus gates, which city centre businesses say has had a devastating impact on their trade.
