One in four North Sea oil and gas workers are looking to exit the industry as a promised transition to green jobs has faded, a survey has revealed.

The research, which assessed the views of more than 400 workers between March and May this year, found that 95% said that the UK government is not doing enough to support them in alternative employment.

Carried out by the social justice charity Platform, the survey found that two thirds said oil and gas companies are not doing enough to help them transition.

It comes as the Just Transition Commission has warned that Scotland is on course for an "unjust transition" as neither government have a plan for oil and gas workers, The Herald reports.

A commission analysis in May said urgent action is needed to ensure a fair transition from fossil fuels to renewables.

It said the government need to take a "bold, innovative approach" that creates new jobs and roles for workers in green energy and decommissioning.
