P3 Business Care has announced a month-long awareness campaign to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September, highlighting the role workplaces can play in supporting employee wellbeing and promoting early intervention.

The Aberdeen-based organisation will focus its September communications on raising awareness of suicide prevention and encouraging conversations around mental health. The campaign aligns with the recent launch of P3 Business Care's Qualsafe-accredited suicide awareness training and forms part of its ongoing commitment to supporting employers and their workforces. According to figures referenced by the organisation, 704 people died by probable suicide in Scotland during 2024, while more than 7,100 people lost their lives to suicide across the UK. Men remain around three times more likely to die by suicide than women.

P3 Business Care said the figures demonstrate the importance of proactive support in the workplace. While many organisations have invested in Employee Assistance Programmes and Mental Health First Aiders, the company believes regular workplace engagement can help identify concerns before they develop into a crisis.

Through its Employee Presence model, P3 Business Care's business partners carry out regular workplace visits, building relationships with employees and creating opportunities to identify changes in wellbeing, behaviour or personal circumstances that may indicate a need for support.

The September campaign will reinforce the message that early conversations and visible support networks can make a meaningful difference to individuals experiencing difficulties and help create healthier workplace cultures.

Jim Grimmer, founder of P3 Business Care, said: "Despite growing awareness of mental health, too many people continue to reach crisis point without receiving the support they need. Our September campaign is focused on encouraging organisations to think about how they can create opportunities for meaningful conversations before problems escalate.

We believe the right conversation at the right time can save a life. While no organisation can prevent every tragedy, proactive, visible, and trusted support in the workplace can help people feel heard, supported and connected to the help they need."
