Aberdeen International Airport in partnership with AberNecessities and Sport Aberdeen have raised £24,000 hosting the unique Jet Set Spin.

Believed to be Europe’s first-ever spin class held on an active airport airfield the event took place this afternoon (Friday, 26th September).

The high-energy event brought together 20 well-known faces from across the North East to raise vital funds for Sport Aberdeen and AberNecessities.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of a live airfield, participants pedalled through a near hour long spin session while aircraft and helicopters continued to take off and land around them.

The event ran from 12:30 to 16:00 and offered a once-in-a-lifetime experience that blended adrenaline, purpose, and community spirit.

Each participant aimed to raise as much money as possible to secure their “boarding pass” for the event, with all proceeds going toward AberNecessities’ mission to provide essential items for children living in poverty, and Sport Aberdeen’s SPACE programme, which supports care-experienced young people through physical activity.

Robert Paterson, head of operations at Aberdeen International Airport, who also took part, said: “Hosting a spin class on an airfield, right next to an active runway takes a lot of organisation so I want to thank the team for their brilliant work to allow us to raise an incredible amount for the two charities.

Danielle Flecher-Horn, founder of AberNecessities, said: "As Aberdeen International Airport’s Charity Partner, we were incredibly grateful to be invited to be part of this wonderfully, unique event alongside our friends at Sport Aberdeen.  We have been completely overwhelmed, not only by the fantastic amount of funds raised, but by the collective effort of the three organisations to make this inaugural event a ‘high-flying’ success.  It really was a day to remember that will make an incredible difference to children in our local community.  We can't thank the Jet Set Squad enough for 'pedalling with purpose' and those who donated to ensure that we can continue to gift the essential and basic necessities that 'No Child Should Go Without'."

Keith Heslop, chief executive of Sport Aberdeen, said: "I’m absolutely delighted with the incredible support we’ve had from our local community, you’ve really got behind this in true Aberdeen style! A huge well done to my fellow spinners who did a fantastic job, not only taking on such a unique challenge but raising much-needed funds to support our SPACE programme. It’s humbling to be part of such an amazing team effort, and on behalf of everyone at Sport Aberdeen, a big heartfelt thank you to each and every person involved."
