Persimmon Homes North Scotland is celebrating a major industry accolade after its Elgin home style was named Starter Home of the Year at the Scottish Home Awards 2026, announced earlier in June.

The Scottish Home Awards, now in their 19th year, recognise excellence in the Scottish housing sector, with the Starter Home category rewarding high‑quality, great‑value homes designed specifically for first‑time buyers. Judges praised entries that demonstrated strong design, thoughtful layouts, value for money and clear evidence of meeting local housing needs.

Persimmon’s winning entry focused on The Elgin, a three‑bedroom starter home. At 957 square feet, The Elgin offers a larger‑than‑average footprint for a starter home, with features including an open‑plan kitchen and dining area with French doors to the garden, a separate utility room, a spacious lounge, three well‑proportioned bedrooms and an en‑suite to the primary bedroom.

Energy efficiency was a key factor in the design, with all homes built to a “fabric first” standard, incorporating high levels of insulation, airtightness and solar photovoltaic panels as standard. The development also integrates sustainable drainage systems, green corridors and extensive landscaping to create a safe, attractive and environmentally sensitive place to live.

James Mackay, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said, “We are delighted to receive national recognition for a home designed specifically to meet the needs of local first‑time buyers.

“The award reflects our commitment to delivering high‑quality, energy‑efficient homes that offer exceptional value for money.”

The win highlights the growing importance of well‑designed starter homes in supporting local communities and helping more buyers take their first step onto the property ladder.
