Newly launched Phoenix Decom has announced nine new appointments to its growing team. The organisation has an existing alliance partnership with Norsea UK in Peterhead under the umbrella of Norsea Decom, where together it provides a full turn-key service for decommissioning projects. This includes quayside logistics, SEPA authorised Waste Management and NORM management facilities.
Phoenix Decom is contemporary in its approach but draws on a wealth of experience from industry experts. Craig Smith joins as managing director and brings over 30 years’ experience in the NORM oil and gas sector, working his way up from shop floor to director.
Bill Sutton has over five decades of experience working within the industry including involvement in the building and development of the first ever NORM operational site. Overseeing nearly 50 decommissioning projects throughout his career, Bill has played a significant role in driving change and development within the sector. Now part-time, Bill assists in preplanning; identifying the requirements and risks of a project to ensure safe, effective results for both the client and the company.
Environmental manager, Simon Davies has worked in waste management for nearly 18 years and brings experience working in both the public and private sector. With six years as a waste regulator at SEPA, and eight years in a waste management role onshore, Simon has refined expert knowledge across environmental compliance, perimetry, and duty of care and is also a qualified dangerous goods safety advisor and radiation protection supervisor.
Barnie McNichol has joined the team as HSEQ manager following 15 years’ experience working within the industry. His current role focusses specifically on the development of management systems to ensure the safety of all stakeholders within a NORM environment. Barnie has prepared numerous project safety plans for the onshore decommissioning market.
Operations and commercial supervisor, Russell Stuart brings more than 30 years’ experience working within the NORM industry. Russell has developed a wealth of knowledge across the operations and commercial elements of the business. He has experience working day-to-day with UK oil and gas operators and overseeing supply chains. Russell specialises in project costing and logistical planning for decommissioning projects. He has played a central role in over 20 projects, costing and moving over 20,000 tonnes of NORM contaminated equipment.
Jill Forbes has joined the team as tendering manager following 18 successful years working in the NORM oil and gas industry. From running document control systems and managing the office to preparing critical tender documents for projects, Jill’s customer focus and reputation for meeting and exceeding targets, have earnt her respect within the industry.
Business development director, Walter Robertson has over 30 years’ experience having held senior positions with Norsea UK and Asco, playing a critical role in the building and development of UK and overseas divisions. Walter’s abundance of knowledge, experience, and industry relationships are hugely beneficial to the business. Keen to use his expertise to assist others, Walter also plays a proactive role in the professional development of his colleagues.
Joining as financial director, Henry Lints has over 40 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector having started as a chartered accountant. His expertise spans the financial, commercial, legal, and contractual elements of a business. Over the last 10 years, Henry has been an integral member of the team, specialising in NORM decontamination and decommissioning work scopes.
Refining his operational and management expertise within his family business Scotoil for many years, Graham Davidson gained extensive experience in NORM/decontamination production processes both on and offshore, as well as RPS surveying and contracting. Having worked alongside Craig Smith and Henry Lints to grow the company to a point of sale, before leaving at the end of 2015 for a new challenge. In the years that followed he channelled his ambition and drive into the building and development of his own businesses, operating in commercial property, and both the automotive and renewables sectors. Graham joins Phoenix Decom with a firm belief in the team and their collective capability to help build a more economical and environmentally friendly solution to the decommissioning projects market.
