Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has elected John Maciver as Senior Partner.

John is a Finance Partner and is Head of the firm’s Financial Services sector which under his leadership has grown by over 20% in the last two financial years.

John joined the firm as a trainee in 1995 after graduating in law from the University of Edinburgh and spent his junior career with the firm in Scotland before relocating to London.

Since rejoining the firm in 2008 John has been influential in shaping the firm’s Financial Services sector strategy, and growing the firm’s Finance, Restructuring and Funds practices whilst leading major client relationships. He was also instrumental in embedding the use of legal technology into the Financial Services sector’s legal service delivery.

John Maciver, Senior Partner elect, says: “It is an honour to be elected as Senior Partner. Our firm has globally recognised strength and depth across our key sectors, and a reputation for innovation and client service which we are rightly proud of.

“Our industry has evolved significantly over recent years, and that pace of change will continue. We have made, and will continue to make, the investments in people and technology which enable our clients to rely on us when the stakes are high.

“Under my leadership we will continue to focus on providing excellent client service in our key markets, leveraging our investments in technology and people to drive further growth, and always seeking to deliver innovative solutions.”

John will succeed Andrew Masraf with effect from 1 October 2026.

John added: “Andrew has built a firm that is optimised for the future and resilient to the external forces shaping our world. I’d like to extend my warmest thanks for his leadership over the last four years and his tremendous contribution to our firm over 33 years. He is held in the highest regard across our business.”

Andrew Masraf, incumbent Senior Partner, says: “Leading the firm for the last four years has been a tremendous privilege. Not least because of what we have achieved, but because of the confidence and tenacity of our people to always push for better outcomes.

“Among turbulent times, the firm has remained focused on its long-term strategy and has made strides towards achieving our vision. Congratulations to John. I know that he will continue to inspire the business to break conventions, think differently and embrace our originality.”
