A new intensive leadership programme for the oil and gas sector, developed as part of the Energy Jobs Taskforce action plan and aimed at driving sustainable changes within the industry, has kicked off this week in Aberdeenshire involving 19 people from both the supply chain and operators.
Strong industry demand means the Future Industry Leadership Programme will be delivered in two cohorts – the first running from September 27-30 followed by the second from October 3-6.
Organised by Scottish Enterprise, the programme looks to help address some of the key challenges highlighted by the Taskforce – which has strong industry membership – around leadership behaviours and shared principles and values.
Scottish Enterprise’s energy director, Maggie McGinlay is a member of the Energy Jobs Taskforce and has been involved in developing the programme. She said: “A key focus for the Energy Jobs Taskforce has been around next generation leaders and ensuring they are equipped with the right skills and knowledge to drive the transformational change needed to ensure a lasting and sustainable sector in the future.
“This new programme brings together a mix of individuals from right across the industry and encourages them to develop their leadership capabilities, build collaborative networks with high performing peers and embed a culture of change to maximise future opportunities for the sector.”
The programme consists of a three day residential leadership retreat, three one-to-one leadership coaching sessions and a leadership learning circle.
Commenting on the programme, one of the delegates from a tier one contractor said: “I want to play a key leadership role to lead cultural change in my team, maximise the potential within my company and across industry to ensure key stakeholders are aligned to the new way of thinking.
“I am really excited to join the programme, engage with a network of individuals in similar positions and gain support and mentoring from experienced leaders.”
