A £40million Aberdeen office block is set to be demolished - just 11 years after being built - due to rising rates and energy costs.

Plans submitted to Aberdeen City Council seek permission to flatten Cityview office complex by Wellington Road, adjacent to the former Shell HQ.

The Press and Journal reports coach company Park's of Hamilton, the new owner of the site, now wants to redevelop the land.

Planning documents set out that the offices have been vacant for a "significant" period due to an "oversupply" of office space.

They add: “Replacement tenants are unlikely to be found in the short to medium term, and the ongoing security, rates and energy requirements are fiscally and environmentally unsustainable.

“Redevelopment proposals will come forward in due course.”
