London-based developer Grove Hotels has unveiled plans to turn the vacant former RGU student union building into a hotel and Italian restaurant.

Grove Hotels bought the site, including the neighbouring Clarke building on Harriet Street, at auction last May, and has now submitted detailed plans to Aberdeen City Council.

Proposals, the P&J reports, include a 132-bed hotel, as well as a selection of serviced apartments designed for longer stays on Harriet Street.

Developers are aiming to offer a “four star hotel equivalent” experience.

The student union building itself is planned to become an Italian restaurant and bar, with a gym and office facilities for hotel guests also included.
