A popular Aberdeen City Centre restaurant has decided to close its doors following the "painful" loss of festive trade.

The owners of No 1 Bar & Grill, on Queen's Terrace, have tonight announced they are closing the venue with immediate effect.

They said the decision had been made with a "heavy heart" after Omicron restrictions hit the hospitality sector just before the busy Christmas period.

'We will return'

A statement on the restaurant's website said: "It is with great regret and heavy hearts that we have decided to close No 1 Bar & Grill with immediate effect.

"Since we re-opened in May 2021 trade has been improving but the ‘loss’ of the festive period 2021 has been painful and we have decided that at this point in time it is more sensible to be closed. "

'Thank you'

The statement added: "We hope that as normality returns in the future we will return. We are not in receivership or administration and will be paying all suppliers and debtors and thank them for their support.

"A huge thank you to the wonderful team at No 1 who have done the best possible job of creating great food and looking after our customers, and finally, a massive thank you to all the lovely customers who have supported No 1 in recent years."

Former haulage boss Eddie Anderson bought the the restaurant in 2019, the year before the pandemic hit.
