A promotional video for the newly rebranded Port of Aberdeen has been selected among the ‘Best Animated Videos’ by global agency Design Rush.

The innovative animation was designed and produced by Aberdeen-based digital media production company, signal, who were tasked with creating a short and catchy 2D animation to promote the organisation’s new brand.

Mark Turner, signal Creative Director, explained: “Our task was to capture the rebranding of the Port of Aberdeen as well as its wider strategic goals and vision for the future, all in less than one minute.

“It needed to be delivered in a catchy way to ensure the message reached as many people as possible and there is no better way of doing this than video.”

Design Rush, a US based design talent agency, helps brands find top full-service agencies, web design companies, digital marketing firms and top technology companies.

In its review of ‘Best Animated Videos’, Design Rush describes signal’s video animation for Port of Aberdeen as ‘expertly crafted’. The feature applauds the designers’ ability to ‘bring the port to life by simulating the location along with its processes’ and calls it ‘a bird’s eye view of the entire Port of Aberdeen’.

“With the goal of ‘constantly evolving to support new industries’, the new port has been digitally illustrated through a miniature set that aptly showcases its world-class infrastructure, strategic location and expert supply chain,” the article reads.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected by Design Rush as one of the best video animations globally this year,” said Mark.

In May this year, almost 900 years after it was first established in Aberdeen in 1136, Aberdeen Harbour rebranded its operating entity to Port of Aberdeen.

The promotional video forms part of signal’s ongoing positive working relationship with the Port of Aberdeen, “Working in partnership with the Port of Aberdeen, we have created many videos on a range of topics, from updates on the South Harbour construction project to supporting its charitable trust and wider corporate messaging“ added Mark.

“Our aim was to capture the Port’s world class facilities and innovations as it continues to adapt and modernise and we are honoured to have played a part in its lasting legacy.”

Jordan Harkins, Head of Communications, Port of Aberdeen, said: “Our rebrand to the Port of Aberdeen marked a new chapter in our history and heritage. Given the significance, we needed a video with impact and signal delivered. We’ve received very positive feedback on the animation and commend signal for capturing the brief to a tee.”

signal has produced hundreds of unique videos and animations for its clients in the UK and across the world.
