Aberdeen-based contract management and legal consultancy Protea has joined forces with software development specialist TrackGenesis to develop a secure, AI-powered contract review platform purpose-built for the energy, engineering, procurement and construction industries.

The partnership brings together two strengths - Protea's deep sector expertise in contracts, operations and governance and TrackGenesis's proven capabilities in software development and artificial intelligence - to tackle one of the most resource-intensive challenges the industry faces: reviewing complex contracts with the accuracy, consistency and speed that projects demand.

Across these sectors, organisations operate within a broad spectrum of contractual frameworks such as LOGIC, NEC, BIMCO, IADC, engineering framework and services agreements, procurement contracts and bespoke commercial terms. Reviewing these agreements and the contractual obligations they contain is never routine, demanding specialist judgement to identify commercial risk, interpret obligations and enable confident decision-making, often under intense time pressure. Generic large language models lack the industry-specific understanding required to interpret these documents accurately and they raise security concerns that make many organisations unwilling to expose commercially sensitive information to publicly available tools.

At its core, the fully secure platform will apply sector-standard contracting principles, developed by Protea, rather than generic large language model processing, to read and interpret agreements the way an experienced industry commercial professional would. It will clearly identify potential risks, surface key obligations and flag the terms that warrant closer attention, confidently saving time and driving greater consistency across every review. The result will allow contract, legal, procurement and commercial professionals to apply their expertise where it delivers the greatest value.

Critically, confidentiality is engineered in from the outset with all sensitive information remaining within a secure environment purpose-built for the task, giving organisations the confidence to put AI to work on their most important agreements.

Beth Towsey, Founder and Director of Contracts and Commercial at Protea, said: "Contract review remains one of the most resource-intensive activities our clients face. Our ambition is not to replace commercial judgement but equip our customers with a tool that helps them review contractual terms more efficiently and focus attention precisely where it matters most based on known and validated parameters and in a fully secure setting.”

Rajesh Kumar Plamthottathil, Founder and CEO at TrackGenesis, added: “Working in partnership with Protea, we are developing a secure, AI-powered contract review platform built specifically for the realities of energy and engineering contracting. By combining Protea’s deep domain expertise with our experience in building AI-driven systems, the platform is designed to understand complex contractual frameworks, improve consistency and speed in reviews, and support professionals in identifying risks and obligations more efficiently, all within a secure environment where confidentiality is paramount.”

As development advances, Protea and TrackGenesis will continue to engage closely with industry stakeholders, ensuring the platform reflects the practical realities of working across the energy and engineering sectors.
