Mud, marshes, forest trails and obstacle-filled fun awaited pupils, families and staff from St Margaret’s School for Girls as they took on the challenge of Really Muddy Aberdeen on Sunday, May 17, in a fantastic display of the school’s community spirit.
The ‘dream
team’, made up of over 60 pupils,
parents and staff, trudged their way
across the muddy Castle Fraser course to raise funds for the school’s bursary
programme which supports children from lower income families. Despite the mud, there were plenty of smiles,
laughter and encouragement from teammates and supporters, making it a memorable
day for everyone involved.
For 180
years, St Margaret’s has equipped young women with confidence, curiosity, and
resilience to succeed and research continues to show that girls often achieve
more in all-girls’ settings, free from gender stereotypes and in classrooms
designed for their learning styles and needs.
Anna Tomlinson, Head Teacher at St Margaret’s School for Girls, said: “This was such a great day for our whole school community. It was brilliant to see pupils, parents, families, friends and staff all getting involved, cheering each other on and having fun together - even in the mud. Whether climbing over obstacles, or cheering from the sidelines, everyone played their part and created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.
"We are incredibly grateful for the support shown for our bursary programme, which helps ensure talented young women can benefit from a St Margaret’s education regardless of their financial circumstances.”
Former recipient, Mahsa Manzari, shared the powerful impact of the school’s bursary programme after it enabled her to study fifth and sixth year at St Margaret’s: “From the moment I joined St Margaret’s, I looked forward to each day. I proudly represented the school in maths competitions, earning several awards, and won three out of seven prizes in the STEM in the Pipeline project.
"The education I received gave me confidence, valuable skills, and lasting lessons in kindness, resilience, and determination. These foundations led me to study Mathematics and Computer Science and pursue a career as a Business Intelligence Consultant.”
