Founded in 1889 as the Charities Campaign, Raising and Giving (RAG) has a long history of supporting charitable causes at the University of Aberdeen.

From organising traditions such as Charities Week and the Torcher Parade to supporting modern fundraising initiatives, RAG has remained committed to helping students make a positive impact in the local community.

RAG was delighted to welcome representatives from its four chosen charities to the recent Raising and Giving Disbursement Ceremony, where donation cheques were presented following a successful fundraising period.

More than £11,000 was raised through a variety of fundraising activities across the year, including collaboration with the Charity Fashion Show, raffles at the Students' Union Activities Ball (formerly the King's Ball), and campaigns such as Dons Day Out. The funds were distributed to Denis Law Legacy Trust, Men in Mind, Tillydrone Community Flat and Grampian Women's Aid.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate not only the funds raised, but also the incredible work each charity continues to do within the local community. Hearing directly from representatives about the impact these donations will make, alongside those who have witnessed the long-standing impact of RAG's work, was a highlight of the day.

RAG was also pleased to welcome members of the Filmmaking Society, who attended to record the event and capture the celebrations and presentations throughout the ceremony.

During the event, the "Partnership of the Year" shield was presented to Shinty in recognition of its continued support and partnership throughout the fundraising year. This new award aims to recognise the work students do to support the local community and encourage more student groups across campus to engage in charitable and community-focused activities.

Raising more than £11,000 this year was a fantastic achievement and would not have been possible without the support of everyone who attended events, volunteered their time, partnered with RAG, and contributed throughout the year.

RAG would like to thank everyone who supported its fundraising efforts and looks forward to continuing its work with local charities and community organisations in the future.
