Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks is set to return this month with a record number of venues taking part – making it the largest event of its kind in Scotland.
More than 90 restaurants, bars and cafes will take part in the hugely-popular Foodie Fortnight - which will run from Monday, February 23, until Sunday, March 8.
With cuisines from across the world and delicious deals for discerning diners, this Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks has all the ingredients for a fantastic celebration of the city’s food and drink sector, said organisers Aberdeen Inspired.
And the Business Improvement District hopes the event will bring a huge boost to the Granite City’s hard-pressed hospitality industry while increasing footfall in the city centre.
The tasty line-up for the Foodie Fortnight includes many spots making their Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks debut – including Maggie’s Grill, Madame Mews, MEXIKCAL Street Food at Durty Murphys, Social Monkey, The Silver Darling and Wild Goose.
Favourites are also on the menu, such as Amarone, The Terrace at His Majesty’s Theatre, The Glenhouse, The Atrium, Six by Nico, Poldino’s, Namaste Delhi, 8848, and Cup.
They will be offering special dinner and lunch menus ranging from £10 to £30, plus specially curated A la carte and tasting menus.
Richard Parfitt and Sebastain Lord, director and business partners at Maggie’s Grill are delighted to be dishing up their first Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks with Shona Byrne, project manager at Aberdeen Inspired.
Shona Byrne, Aberdeen Inspired’s project manager for Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks, said the response from restaurants wanting to take part had been overwhelming and the volume of entries makes this the largest restaurant weeks event in Scotland.
Shona said: “Even before we had officially announced the dates, we had restaurants contacting us asking to take part. That a record-number of venues have signed up just shows the importance our hospitality industry places on the Foodie Fortnight and the positive impact it has for them.
“It really is a showcase for all that is great and good about the hospitality scene in the city, something we should all celebrate. Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks is also a huge driver for attracting people into the city centre to discover all these great places for themselves, along with the other attractions that are here.
“I would urge people to come in and enjoy some fantastic dining experiences – and I have no doubt once you’ve tasted it once you will want to come back for more during the Foodie Fortnight.”
Among the restaurants taking part is Wild Ginger on Union Street who were keen to be part of the event again.
Wild Ginger owner Jeffrey Rahman said: “We took part in Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks for the first time in September last year and our experience was extremely positive; we were consistently busy throughout the promotion and received excellent feedback from guests.
“Without a doubt, we felt the impact of Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks and were thrilled with how busy it was.”
Maggie’s Grill on Broad Street will be joining the line-up for Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks for the first time.
Richard Parfitt, director of Maggie's Grill told us “We are delighted to be participating in Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks. Anything that shines a spotlight on city centre hospitality venues is a worthwhile initiative, and one we are proud to be part of.
“As it's our first time taking part in Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks, we have designed an exclusive discounted offering that will hopefully allow our guests to enjoy as much of our menu as possible. Whether you're visiting us for the first time, or are already friends of Maggie's Grill, pop along to enjoy our great value, curated soul food offerings.”
The Foodie Fortnight will also see the return of the Secret Suppers, with three unique dining experiences, where diners won’t find out where they are eating or what’s on the menu until the day of the supper.
Held on February 25 and 26 and March 5, they will take place in ‘unusual spaces’, some with real historical significance, and all will champion locally-sourced ingredients from around the region featuring dishes that celebrate both the land and sea.
Tickets are on sale now, price £65pp and with limited spaces they are expected to be snapped up quickly.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “With more restaurants, cafes and bars taking part than ever before Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks will be a feast of delights for both diners and businesses.
“People will be able to try out new places to eat – and savour old favourites – with some very tempting special menus at mouth-watering prices. Feedback from previous Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks makes it clear just how much people enjoy and appreciate what is on offer.
“We also know that restaurants who take part get a real lift in business during the Foodie Fortnight while finding new customers who frequently become welcome – and valued – regulars.”
“All that remains to be said for diners and venues getting ready to tuck into Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks is bon appetit.”
