The annual ram sales hosted by Aberdeen & Northern Marts will see a record entry of 360 rams destined for Caithness Livestock Centre, on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th September, as part of the annual two-day Ram Fair at Quoybrae.
The 2-day event kicks off with the Annual Show and Sale of Multi Breed Rams and Ram Lambs under the auspices of the Caithness Sheep Breeders Association on Thursday 18th September, kindly sponsored by HRN Tractors. Judging of the show will commence at 4pm, followed by the sale starting at 6.30pm.
This year’s event has attracted a record entry of 218 rams, comprising: 104 Texels – to be judged by Louise Coghill, Skinnet, Halkirk, 47 Suffolks – to be judged by Scott Morrison, Shinsharnie, Huntly and 67 Any Other Breed, including Blue Faced Leicester, Dutch Spotted Texel, Beltex, Blue Texel and crosses, to be judged by Dougie Munro, Banniskirk Mains, Halkirk.

On Friday 19th September, the focus turns to the annual North Country Cheviot Sheep Society Show and Sale, held in conjunction with the North Country Sheep Society and kindly sponsored by Shearwell Data.
The mouth inspection will be carried out between 7.30am and 8.15am by D S Macgregor & Partners, with judging starting at 8.30am, followed by the sale at 10am.
A strong entry of 142 North Country Cheviot rams and females are forward for day two, including 122 Shearlings, 4 Aged Rams, 1 Ram Lamb, 10 Gimmers and 5 Ewe Lambs.

Judging the Shearling Rams, Aged Rams & Ram Lambs is Alistair Armstrong, 54 Aughentaine Road, Filvemiletown, Co Tyrone and John Robert Burgess, Lower House, Hillwell, Quendale.
Judging the Groups and females section is Rhys Davies, Maerdy Isaf, Talley, Llandeilo and Brendan Drew, Low Gill Beck Farm, Glaisdale, Whitby.
