Residence Inn by Marriott Aberdeen exceeds year one expectations

Aberdeen’s Residence Inn by Marriott hotel has exceeded expectations as it marks its first anniversary this week, having welcomed 27% more guests than predicted in the year since opening.

Situated in the Marischal Square development, the hotel is one of two in Scotland and the fourth in the UK, representing a multi-million pound investment by Marriott.

The hotel has welcomed guests from across the UK and Europe, as well as the USA and Asia, with both business and leisure visitors choosing to stay.

As the first city-centre hotel dedicated to the extended-stay market, Residence Inn Aberdeen’s 126 suites offer a home-away-from-home experience, with fully equipped kitchen facilities and comfortable living and sleeping areas.

Guests also benefit from a 24-hour lobby, complimentary buffet breakfast, restaurant and WIFI access, as well as extra perks such as an on-site Grab’n Go market, shopping delivery service, gym facilities, and a free self-service laundry facility – catering perfectly to longer stays.

Anne Martin, multi property sales leader at Marriott, said: “Residence Inn has given visitors the option to choose a Marriott hotel in the city centre and we have seen a mix of guests coming from all over Europe, particularly Scandinavia, as well as further afield in the US and Asia.

“The long-stay option with reduced rates has proved to be particularly popular as we offer a home from home with the benefits of a hotel and all the facilities guests would need, including their own kitchen so they can choose to eat in.

“If they prefer to go out, we now have plenty of options on our doorstep as restaurants such as All Bar One, Prezzo, Tony Macaroni, Costa and Mackie’s 19.2 ice cream parlour have all opened up, which has added to the ambiance around the hotel now the Broad Street development and fountains are also complete.”

Chris Wayne-Wills, north cluster general manager at Marriott, added: “The Residence Inn by Marriott Aberdeen has proved to be extremely successful over its first year, with occupancy rates 27% higher than forecast. The hotel continues to attract a wide range of corporate and leisure visitors thanks to its ideal location, upscale connectivity and the convenience of home.”

Residence Inn is the fourth Marriott International hotel in the city, having joined the existing Aberdeen Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Aberdeen Airport and MOXY Aberdeen Airport.

Andrew Martin, vice-chair of Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association, said: “The Residence Inn by Marriott is very much part of the Marischal College re-development. Having an internationally recognised brand offering high quality accommodation helps put heart back into the city centre.”
