The retail guru with a "100% success rate" hired by Aberdeen Inspired to breathe new life into the city centre has made filling the vacant Debenhams unit his top priority.

Jonathan De Mello has picked out the sprawling empty unit in the Trinity Centre as the perfect place to kick start his task of refilling the city centre's retail offering.

In an exclusive story this morning, The Press and Journal revealed De Mello toured the city centre's vacant units with council officials, examining each one before picking out the former Debenhams site as a priority.

He said: “The first key intervention is the big vacant units you see in the city, the Debenhams being one of them. That is the major one actually from my perspective.

“So we need to get that let, and we need it let with multiple occupiers, it’s a big space.”
