Robert Gordon University (RGU) has announced a new training course for Occupational Health and other health care professionals with an interest in audiometry and hearing conservation in the workplace.
The BSA Approved Industrial Audiometry Training course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to carry out audiometry screening, evaluate and categorise results in an industrial environment.
Delivered by RGU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, the 3-day course will take place in the state of the art facilities at the university’s Garthdee campus. The first planned course will begin on Tuesday November 1 and run 9am-5pm each day.
Lynda Bruce, lecturer in Occupational Health, said: “It is important that health professionals fully appreciate the effects of noise on the hearing mechanism, particularly in a busy or industrial workplace.
“In addition to providing training in audiometry screening, we will introduce participants to the principles of hearing conservation in the workplace and give an overview of Noise at Work regulations.
“We are delighted to be able to offer this course at RGU and believe that our expert team are best placed to help professionals further enhance their skills in this field.”
The course will be taught through a mixture of classroom learning and practical skills development and participants will:
- Become proficient in carrying out audiometric screening tests
- Be able to categorise and interpret results
- Know when to refer to a doctor
- Have basic knowledge of a noise management programme
- Understand the principles of a good record-keeping system
Applications are now open for the November course and further repeats are planned for throughout the year.
