The global impact of pharmacy practice research at Robert Gordon University (RGU) will be explored by an expert at an event in Aberdeen next week.
Professor Derek Stewart from RGU’s School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences will deliver a public lecture on Wednesday, February 15, which will explore how the university’s pharmacy practice research impacts patients, professionals, organisations and society at local, national and international levels, as well as the importance of research evaluation in ensuring the safe use of medicines.
The free event, which will take place at RGU’s Garthdee campus at 6pm, is part of a series of professorial lectures introduced by the university where a number of its experts discuss topical research issues.
Professor Stewart will draw on his research which focusses on developing, implementing and evaluating models of care and the safe and effective use of medicines.
Commenting on his lecture, Professor Stewart, said: “I will take the audience on a journey of pharmacy practice, discussing my extensive research into the safe and effective use and prescription of medicines.
“I intend to showcase that implementing research evaluation as a core element in health and social care development will lead to reduced medical errors and wastage.”
Professor Stewart is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a Fellow of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
He is a key player in a European Commission funded study being led by the Scottish Government.
In 2011 Professor Stewart received the UK Pharmacy Practice Research Trust Award for his significant contribution to pharmacy practice research.
The lecture, entitled ‘Pharmacy Practice Research around the World’, will take place in the Sir Ian Wood Building on RGU’s Garthdee campus. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion, which will be followed by light refreshments.
