RGU receive equipment donation from Harris CapRock

Members of RGU’s School of Computing Science and Digital Media have received a donation of CISCO networking equipment from the professionals at Harris CapRock.

Members of the Harris CapRock team visited the computing labs at The Sir Ian Wood Building on Wednesday September 21.

The equipment was donated as part of the university’s summer equipment refresh and included six switches and four routers, among which were the department’s first Gigabit speed edge switches.

These upgrades will allow students of the university to experiment with up-to-date technologies and give them the opportunity to utilise high-performance networking devices.

Professor Chrisina Jayne, Head of the School of Computing Science and Digital Media, said: “We are extremely grateful to the team at Harris CapRock for their generous donation, from which all of our undergraduate and postgraduate students will benefit.

“It is vital that the university works in close partnership with professionals and ensures our curriculum and equipment remains ready to respond to industry needs. I hope we can arrange for our students to further engage with Harris CapRock in the future, to learn more about the real-world implementations of the theory they are learning in class.”
