Robert Gordon University (RGU) has been recognised for graduate career success, outstanding student support and subject excellence in the latest Guardian University Guide, with the university ranked equal second in Scotland for Career Prospects, top in Scotland for Assessment and Feedback, and first in Scotland for three subject areas.
The Guide highlights RGU's continued success in delivering an outstanding student experience and preparing graduates for successful careers.
The University continues to perform strongly for graduate employability, with an 85% career prospects score, placing it alongside the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews and just one percentage point behind the highest-performing Scottish institution. The university has also improved its position at both Scottish and UK level for Continuation, recognising its success in supporting students to progress and complete their studies.
Assessment and Feedback is based on students' views of key aspects of their learning experience, including the clarity of marking criteria, fairness of assessment, opportunities to demonstrate learning, the timeliness of feedback and how effectively feedback supports improvement.
The results also highlight RGU's strength across a range of professionally focused disciplines, with the University ranked top in Scotland for:
- Physiotherapy
- Nutrition and Food Science
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
A further four subjects are ranked second in Scotland:
- Forensic Science
- Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism
- Fine Art
- Construction Surveying and Planning

The results come at a time when RGU is strengthening its role in supporting economic growth, innovation and skills development across the North-east and beyond.
Recent initiatives include the establishment of new interdisciplinary research and innovation centres focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, health, and future skills, alongside continued investment in enterprise, widening participation and community partnerships.
These activities are designed to enhance RGU’s distinctive approach to learning by connecting students with employers, industry projects, professional practice, research and community partners throughout their studies.
The latest Guardian rankings provide further recognition of the University's commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes for students, communities and employers, while supporting the economic and social development of the north-east of Scotland and beyond.
