The Aberdeen Student Festival, organised by Events Management students at Robert Gordon University (RGU), has raised £5215 for charity. The money will be evenly split between Erskine and Diabetes (UK).
Seven internationally-themed cultural events took place in venues across the city from April 21-23 during this year’s festival. The second annual festival to be organised by RGU students as part of their third year course, it gave them the opportunity to use all of the practical skills developed during their course.
Dr Rachael Ironside, lecturer in Events Management at RGU’s School of Creative and Cultural, said: “This year the students have put on another amazing festival. The huge range of events has taken us around the world and enabled the 456 guests that attended the festival to immerse themselves in a variety of cultural performances and activities. The total raised for the charities is excellent, and it goes without saying that we are incredibly proud of their achievements.”

From Liverpool to Hawaii, the Aberdeen Student Festival brought colour, fun and inspiration to the Granite City! All this whilst helping Erskine to continue to support over 800 veterans and their spouses each year in our four homes.”
Karen Moore, regional fundraiser, Diabetes UK: “As the UK’s leading diabetes charity, our mission is that by bringing people together to work in partnership, we will support those living with diabetes, prevent Type 2 diabetes, make research breakthroughs, and ultimately find a cure.
“The income from the festival will help us to achieve our goals faster and realise our vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm. I would like to congratulate the students on such superb and imaginative events and thank them all on behalf of us at Diabetes UK and the 4 million people living with Diabetes in the UK.”
The money raised is going towards supporting a research project for Diabetes UK and funding assisted cycles for the veterans at the Erskine homes.
