Aberdeenshire-based Film-Ocean, a specialist provider of global subsea intervention services, has appointed Abi Thompson as Project Manager, further strengthening its operational team.

Abi joins the team with an impressive 16 years of industry experience, most recently at Newcastle-based OEM, SMD. Having spent nine years in the project office—six of which as a Project Manager—before transitioning into sales management, Abi brings a combination of technical understanding, client-facing experience, and cross-departmental expertise that will prove invaluable to Film-Ocean's operations.

In her new role, Abi will be based out of Film-Ocean's recently-opened Newcastle office, focusing on supporting the company's ongoing projects, ensuring consistent communication across departments and driving continuous improvement in both process and delivery — with the ultimate goal of achieving successful outcomes for Film-Ocean and its clients.

Abi is no stranger to industry recognition either. She was named Subsea Expo's Rising Star of 2025, a testament to her standing within the sector and the potential she brings to her new position.

On her appointment, Abi said: "Having gotten to know the team over the last few weeks, they're all true grafters. There's a real sense of teamwork — everyone mucks in together, and I'm looking forward to playing my part in that."

Duncan Smith, ROV Operations Manager at Film-Ocean, added: “Abi is a fantastic addition to the Film-Ocean team. She brings a wealth of project management experience and a proven track record in the subsea sector, which makes her an invaluable asset to our operations. Abi hit the ground running from day one, and we're looking forward to seeing the contribution she'll make as we continue to grow and deliver for our clients.”

As Film-Ocean’s global client base continues to grow, investing in exceptional talent remains central to maintaining the standards the business is known for.
