Robert Gordon University’s Gray’s School of Art to be showcased in Taiwan

Gray’s School of Art and the work of its staff and students is to be showcased at illustrious art and design festival in Taiwan this week.

Gray’s will highlight its expertise and creativity in the fields of Fashion and Textiles, Communication Design and Three Dimensional Design at the Youth Innovative Design Festival, part of the Kaohsiung Art Festival.

The festival, which runs from April 28 to May 7 at the Pier2 Art Centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, brings together art students from across Taiwan and this year is looking to enrich its portfolio by inviting overseas students and school to showcase their work.

More than 25,000 visitors attended YIDF in 2016, with 1,240 art pieces submitted for a student competition that represented 121 departments of arts and design from 60 institutions in Taiwan.

Dan Bennett, RGU’s regional manager for East Asia, said: “This exhibition provides us with the opportunity to raise our profile to thousands of art/prospective art students, educators, employers and parents in Taiwan.

“There is so much incredible work being done across all fields at Gray’s School of Art and to showcase this on an international platform is brilliant.”

Three videos which show the studios, workshops and students at work at Gray’s will be displayed in a dedicated UK Pavilion at the festival, as well as photographs and artwork by students across the three disciplines.

Lenny Smith, Head of Undergraduate Studies, at Gray’s added: “We have so much talent at Gray’s, in both our student and our staff bodies, and to have the opportunity to spread the word and promote the work we are involved in across the fashion and textiles, 3d design and communication design areas to an international audience is tremendous.”
