Leading engineering and advisory consultancy, Apollo, has appointed Roy Stenhouse as Head of Built Environment within its Sustainable Infrastructure business unit. 

Roy joins from the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC), where he served as Chief Impact Officer and Board member, leading more than £35 million of funded decarbonisation projects. His experience strengthens Apollo’s support for clients across the Sustainable Infrastructure business unit needing clearer routes to lower emissions.

Apollo’s work in the built environment includes projects such as assessing the use of gas networks to provide resilient, lower-carbon power for data centres, industrial estate heating technology, hybrid heating systems to support social housing stock and assessments of BESS sites.

Phil Westmorland, Sustainable Infrastructure Director at Apollo, said:

“The built environment carries a large carbon footprint as well as accounting for significant GHG emissions whilst also an increased focus on improving energy efficiency. Roy will help clients move from plans to performance. That includes network infrastructure, estate decarbonisation, heat networks, grid and power resilience, data centres, microgrids, and new technology designed and delivered the Apollo way.”

Roy brings 28 years of experience across the energy, infrastructure, and government sectors, with a strong track record in delivering complex, multi-stakeholder programmes that support the transition to net zero.

Commenting on his appointment, Roy said:

“The built environment is a large and wide ranging sector covering much of what we see and use every day. Our focus will be on efficiency, new technology, energy delivery, and everything in between. We support clients not only on their net zero journey, but also in day to day operations to help reduce costs and embed more sustainable practices. Apollo’s multidisciplinary advisory and engineering capability means strategy can be shaped, systems modelled, carbon measured, and economics assessed, followed by delivery of projects that work in the real world. I look forward to working with clients, delivering tangible outcomes and expanding Apollo's capabilities.”

Roy is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and holds a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering.
