Entries are now open for the 2026 Run Barra, which will introduce the first-ever Barra Half Marathon alongside the event’s established 10K, 5K and junior races.
The much -loved Aberdeenshire event raises vital funds for children and families supported by North-east charity, Kayleigh’s Wee Stars.
Taking place on Saturday 30 May 2026, the event will return to Oldmeldrum with an expanded programme of races bringing runners of all ages and abilities together with supporters from across the community for a day of fundraising for the charity.
Sponsored by Ocean Installer, the new half marathon route features around 1,000ft of ascent and will take participants along local country roads and sections of the established Run Barra routes before returning to the finish line in Oldmeldrum.
Meanwhile, the well-known Barra 10K will once again take runners on its distinctive multi-terrain route, combining road and cross-country sections around the iconic Barra Hill, while the 5K route provides a shorter and accessible option for runners of all abilities.
Junior races for primary school children will also take place earlier in the morning, helping make the event a celebration of running for the whole community.
All funds raised through Run Barra will support the work of Kayleigh’s Wee Stars, a Scottish charity which provides financial support to families where a child has a terminal illness, helping them make precious memories together during incredibly difficult times.
Anna Cordiner, Charity Manager at Kayleigh’s Wee Stars said: “Run Barra has become such a special day in our calendar, bringing together runners, families and supporters from across the community. This year is particularly exciting as we introduce our very first Barra Half Marathon. It’s a challenging but beautiful route and every entry helps us continue supporting brave families across Scotland, so we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who signs up and takes part.”
