A clear demand for seafaring themed ice-cream scoops delivered a record-breaking sales week for one of Aberdeen’s sweetest destinations amidst a weekend of Tall Ships.

Mackie's 19.2 saw ice cream sales surge by 69% compared to the same period last year, thanks to an estimated 400 000 people who visited the much anticipated festival this past weekend.

The flagship parlour, which is owned and operated by Mackie’s of Scotland, dished out more than 2,500 litres of ice cream across just a three-day period, equivalent to more than 18,000 scoops, smashing previous records.

A standout success of the week was the sell-out of its limited-edition ‘Mermaid’ flavour, which featured a vivid swirl of fruity ice cream, edible pearls and mermaid tail toppers, which was completely gone within just two days.

Close on its heels, ‘Sailor’s Delight’ also scooped up strong demand, disappearing from the freezers shortly after.

Notably, sales hit over £20,000, an increase of over £8,000 against the same period last year.

Yvette Harrison, Parlour Manager at Mackie’s 19.2, said: “It’s been absolutely phenomenal - we had queues out the door and a felt a real buzz across the entire weekend. The weather certainly helped, but the success of the Tall Ships event and our themed flavours really captured people’s imaginations.

“Seeing Mermaid sell out within two days was a real testament to the creativity of the team and our customers’ appetite for new and exciting flavours. There was a sense of fun and celebration across the city, and in every scoop.”

The limited-run nautical flavours were launched to coincide with the Tall Ships races festivities, bringing sea-themed ice cream experiences to Marischal Square in tribute to the fleet of international vessels docked just minutes away.

Yvette added: “We had customers returning multiple times over the weekend just to try the new flavours. There’s something magical about pairing sunshine, seafaring, family fun, and ice cream - and this weekend delivered all of that in spades.”

The parlour, named after its 19.2-mile distance from the Mackie’s farm, where all of Mackie’s ice cream is made, has become a firm favourite among Aberdonians and tourists alike, known for combining traditional Scottish dairy with inventive, small-batch creations.

While new flavours and record sales may have been the talk of the town, Yvette was quick to share credit with her team.

She added: “I’m incredibly proud of our small but mighty team. Everyone pulled together, scooping non-stop and creating an amazing experience for every customer. Their energy and hard work made it all possible.”

Located in the heart of the city, Mackie’s 19.2 continues to build its reputation as a hub of creativity and quality, bringing bold flavours and genuine joy to the Granite City.
