A team from Santander Corporate and Commercial in Aberdeen banked a victory in the finals of a north-east business golf league held at the prestigious Castle Course in St Andrews.
Twelve businesses teed off in the final of the DF Communications Business Golf League at the home of golf raising money for MNDScotland, a charity which helps those affected by motor neurone disease. The final figure is expected to be around £600.
Stuart Thom and Roy Strachan, of Santander Corporate and Commercial, claimed the top prize on the day, pipping the Trump International Golf Links team of Ross Allerton and Chris Turner to the trophy. The pair also collected a Castle Course framed flag.
Stuart said: “We are delighted to have been involved in such a great event. The format is fantastic for networking and really works for us as a business. To win is the icing on the cake and our thanks go to DF Communications for running the league.”
Each year the tournament winners nominate a charity to benefit from funds raised during the following year’s event.
The Santander team has selected Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children (SNAC) as the charity to benefit from the 2017 competition.
Under the stableford format, Santander won with a total of 66 points while, two ahead of Trump International Golf Links who finished on 64. Premier Oil finished in third place on 62 points.
Phil Murray, of ITB Competence, and Grant Hendry, of Knight Frank LLP, shared the prize for nearest the pin.
DF Communications sales director Craig Forsyth, who played for his company in the final, said: “It was a fantastic day out, and while the scores didn’t really reflect the fantastic weather we had, the atmosphere of the finals certainly did as everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
“It was not only a success for the event and the players, but a success for MNDScotland with funds raised to help them continue their valuable work.
“Our congratulations to the Santander team of Stuart and Roy, who both produced the goods on the day to secure the trophy.
“The golf league grows stronger with each year that passes as it continues to offer a valuable opportunity for business people to network outside of work.
“Looking forward to 2017, preparations are well underway, and we are confident it will be another hugely successful and competitive event.”
A total of 30 teams from across the north-east played across a number of local courses between April and September. The Business Golf League is played in a fourball format with five or six teams in each division.
