Scarf marks a major milestone in its 40th year with the successful completion of its first Board Apprenticeship Programme.
Launched early this year, the scheme welcomed Natalya Hendricks and Alana Davidson as its inaugural apprentices. The programme offered a practical introduction to board life, giving the chance to observe meetings, understand decision-making processes, and build confidence in how effective governance works.
David Mackay, Co-CEO of Scarf, said: “The programme has been a real success. Natalya and Alana brought energy, curiosity and constructive challenge – exactly what strengthens a healthy Board. As we celebrate 40 years of Scarf and look ahead, developing a strong, diverse pipeline of future Board members is essential. This scheme has already shown how powerful that investment can be.”
David highlighted that Alana brought clear financial awareness that sharpened discussions and supported thoughtful planning. Natalya contributed valuable insight on internal processes and helped strengthen ongoing governance practices. Together, their perspectives added fresh energy and supported the Board’s continuous improvement approach.
In October, these contributions were formally recognised when both were appointed as full Board Members.

Alana said: “Being an apprentice on Scarf’s board has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. It gave me the chance to see first hand how a board operates and the responsibilities involved in good governance. Working with people from many different backgrounds has been both inspiring and motivating, and I felt genuinely welcomed and supported throughout. What truly stood out was the impact of Scarf’s work and the difference it makes to people’s lives, which is why I was proud to accept the offer to continue my journey as a full board member.”

Natalya is a sustainability and environmental management professional with over 20 years’ experience across environmental management, project delivery, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement and community development. She currently works as Project Manager for Low Carbon Development at Scottish Water Horizons, delivering major renewable energy projects that support Scotland’s transition to net zero. Her work blends technical expertise with community engagement, innovation and a commitment to lasting environmental and social impact.
Alana Davidson
Alana is a Chartered Financial Planner at Acumen Financial Planning, with a career spanning nearly 20 years in banking and financial services across the UK and Australia. She holds the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute and is committed to accessible, high-quality financial guidance. Passionate about community impact, she aims to support Scarf’s strategic direction by bringing financial insight and a practical understanding of the pressures households face.
