SOBR Bar, Scotland’s first and only entirely alcohol-free cocktail bar and events space, is raising a zero-proof glass to celebrate what has been an incredible first year of operation.
Located on Thistle Street in the heart of Aberdeen, the venue, which specialises in sophisticated, alcohol-free creations crafted alongside local independent suppliers and premium zero-proof spirits, has wrapped up a breakout debut year marked by major national award wins, critical acclaim, and a rapidly growing movement toward mindful socialising.
Since opening its doors in October 2025, SOBR has evolved from an ambitious, self-funded concept by local entrepreneur Kate Kenyon, into an industry decorated trailblazer of the UK hospitality scene.
Designed as a safe, inclusive, and upscale alternative to traditional nightlife, the beautifully designed 22-seat boutique bar has completely redefined what it means to enjoy a great night out, without the hangover and regret that can come with traditional socialising.
A Year of Major Award Wins & National Acclaim
SOBR’s innovative approach, not to mention defiance in the face of social commentators, has captured the attention of the media and industry, culminating in two major accolades over the last few months.
Most recently, the venue took home the top prize at the prestigious DRAM Magazine Scottish Bar and Pub Awards 2026, where it was crowned the "Jump Ship Brewing Best Lo and No Destination."
This major win follows hot on the heels of SOBR being named a "Trailblazer in the Low & No Alcohol Category" at the UK Enterprise Awards 2026. The bar also earned high-profile shortlistings in the Great British Pub Awards 2026, cementing its status as one of the premier zero-alcohol destinations in the United Kingdom, and is a finalist at next month’s Anthea Awards at The Beach Ballroom.
"As a small, independent business trying something completely new in the city - and the country - this first year has been incredible, a real rollercoaster, but one that has been defined by our customers who have found in SOBR something that was badly needed," said Kate Kenyon, founder of SOBR Bar. “We’re a safe, inclusive, non-judgemental, space where they can relax and enjoy zero drinks that are curated with thought and attention to detail.”
“To win Best Zero bar in Scotland means the world to us, as does being recognized nationally as a trailblazer – it’s’ so exciting!” continued Kate. “We set out to prove that memorable social experiences don't rely on alcohol, just great company, a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional taste. The response from the people of Aberdeen and beyond has been incredibly validating."
Kate went on to say that she wanted to continue to look after her customer base.
“On the events side, we have found that events championing men’s mental health, interestingly, have been the most popular and reviewed. It’s so important that men can have support, and a place where they can open up freely to others.”
Acclaimed Zero-Alcohol Cocktails with a Purpose
Quite how far the bar has come in its first year is evident in SOBR’s most recent menu launch, The Functional Edit - A New Destination for Mindful Drinking, an assured, confident collection of twelve sophisticated serves which demonstrates that SOBR has honed its offering to perfection.
Designed to let guests choose their drinks based on how they want to feel, these innovative cocktails incorporate health-boosting and functional ingredients such as lion’s mane mushroom, lemon balm and butterfly pea flour, to uplift and promote energy or calm.
Colour changing serves, flambeed finishes, smoke, bespoke ice and curated garnishes provide the necessary wow factor.
Looking to the Future
As SOBR enters its second year, the venue remains dedicated to collaborating with local, independent partners while looking to take SOBR on the road through pop-up events and festivals throughout Scotland and beyond. SOBR is also in the process of making their drinks more accessible for people to enjoy in their own homes, allowing everyone to enjoy SOBR no matter the occasion.
With its reputation now firmly established, and a trophy cabinet to match, SOBR is poised to continue leading the charge for the future of inclusive socialising in Scotland.
